Biotechnology has revolutionized the agricultural, industrial, environmental, and especially the medical fields, tackled numerous global challenges and successfully improved the lives of humans. Its recent achievements include the breakthrough development of the COVID-19 vaccines. This course offers a unique way to learn the key concepts of biotechnology and its cutting-edge appli-cations in diverse areas particularly in medicine. You will learn the principles and the applications of recombinant DNA, stem cell, and monoclonal antibody technologies in addition to methods of vaccine production. You will gain insights into how pharmaceuticals could be produced by different biological expression systems such as microorganisms and mammalian cells. You will also learn the principles of gene therapy and understand how transgenic animals could be used as model systems to study human diseases and to speed up the drug discovery process. Additionally, you will gain immense theoretical knowledge about the advanced cell and molecular biology techniques that you may apply while conducting your research during your future MSc and PhD studies.
