In this course we will explore the huge potential of literary texts to develop intercultural communicative competences (ICC) and literary literacy in ELT. Based on a theoretical reflection of concepts such as ICC and transcultural learning and an alignment of the new descriptors of the Common European Framework with existing and newly developed models of literary competences, we will read and analyze texts such as poems, picturebooks for young and advanced learners, short stories, graphic novels, young adult fiction and transmedia narratives. We will discuss how texts can be implemented in ELT to motivate learners to engage with texts and develop creative teaching ideas.
Credit requirements: minutes/logs of one session and term paper.
