How can we turn images into reliable biological evidence?
Principles of Bioimaging introduces the physical, chemical and biological foundations of modern light microscopy. We will explore how microscopes form images, how fluorescent labels reveal molecular structures, and how quantitative analysis connects images to biological questions.
Topics include contrast mechanisms, fluorescence, resolution and sampling, widefield and confocal microscopy, light-sheet and super-resolution methods, molecular dynamics and interactions, and rigorous experimental design.
The course welcomes students from Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Medicine, Biology, Physics, Pharmacy and related disciplines. Different disciplinary backgrounds are welcome. We will build a shared foundation and develop it through real imaging examples, discussion and short interpretation tasks.
