This in-person course offers an introduction to sociophonetics, a field that focusses on the relationship between phonetic and/or phonological form on the one hand, and social and regional factors on the other. Basic concepts related to sociolinguistics, phonetics and phonology, and World Englishes will be covered. During the course of this seminar, participants are to give presentations based on sociophonetic studies on various Englishes and/or communities.
